Support

  •  Where do I go if I need immediate support? Class teacher, Student Services, Head of Year and Wellbeing Services office (at the back of the library building facing Student Services)

  • Who are my key staff that can support me?Key staff – Homeroom Teacher, Head of Year, House Community Coordinator and College Counsellors

  • How do I book an appointment with a College Psychologist or Counsellor? You can request a consultation HERE.

  • How do I leave class for a Wellbeing appointment? It is helpful if students let their class teacher know in advance that they have an appointment with a Counsellor – they can do this via email or in person. Please present your appointment slip to your Teacher.

  • How do I ask my teacher a question out of school hours? Please send an email or make contact via your class  Seesaw / Teams pages where appropriate.

Attendance

  • What time is the earliest students can arrive? Junior School: 8.15am unless participating in a supervised activity. Senior School: 8.00am unless participating in a supervised activity.

  • What time is the latest students can leave? 3.45pm unless participating in a supervised activity.

  • How do I leave during the school day? With written permission which must be sighted by the class teacher and handed to Student Services as they sign out.

  • What do I do if I feel unwell during the school day? Your teacher will sign your diary to attend Sick Bay at Student Services, who will contact your parents

  • What do I do if I arrive late? Students are to report to Student Services on late arrival

  • How do I authorise my absence days? Your absence must be reported to the Absentee Hotline by a parent. Written explanation is required on Student return for missed assessments.

  • What are the expectations for travelling to and from the College? A high standard of behaviour is expected whenever a student is representing the College and wearing the College uniform. Students are to comply with bus regulations including keeping feet and items which may cause damage off seats and standing for for adults, when travelling on a student fare.

 Organisation

  • What is “4 for Sure”? This applies to Senior School students and are the items you must have with you in the classroom for every lesson:
    - Device (iPad / MacBook)
    - Notebook
    - College Diary
    - Pencil Case

  • What do I do if I cannot participate in Physical Education or Outdoor Education classes? You must have a written explanation from parents in diary for Senior School students or a note/email for Junior School students..

  • What are the expectations for entering a classroom?
    - Enter under direction of staff
    - Line-up outside class in an orderly manner
    - Stand until instructed to sit
    - Wait to be dismisses at the end of lesson
    - Senior School: Food and drink are not be consumed in class (water bottles maybe taken into class).

  • What are the arrangements for student lockers and locks? In the Senior School a lock and locker is provided for each student. The lock remains the property of the College, a lost lock incurs a cost. The College will not recompense students for lost or damaged property that should have been stored in a locked locker.

  • How do I order a new Smart Rider? Please visit Student Services.

  • Where is lost property located? Senior School: Lost property is to be handed into Student Services, marked items will be advertised in the Daily Notices, read out in Homeroom. Junior School: Two ‘lost property’ containers remain at the junior school administration office. Please name all your belongings to avoid items not being returned.

  • How do students receive communication at the College?
    Senior School: Daily Notices read out during Homeroom and via SEQTA.

 

 Academic Reports

  • How often will I receive a report?
    1 x Progress Report (Term 1)
    2 x Semester Reports (Term 2 & Term 4)

  • What are the “Approaches to Learning” in the report?
    The Approach to Learning describes the behaviours we aspire for all learners in our community to demonstrate:
    - Contribute to a positive learning enviroment

    - Demonstrate self-motivation
    - Seek and Act on feed-back
    - Strive for their best in all

  • What are the “Homeroom and Pastoral Care” in the report?
    The Pastoral Report reports on the learner’s:
    - Participation in College Life
    - Pride in the College including adhering to the College Uniform Policy
    - Positive relationships with other
    - Desire and commitment to trying new things
    - Responses to challenges as opportunities for growth

 

Break times

 Can I play Sport or Ball Games at break times?

General: Sport and ball games can be played on the Ovals, Tennis Courts, Gymnasium, marked areas in the undercover area, basketball courts, and with teacher permission on some paved areas of outer atrium spaces.

Junior School: (Sport and ball games are played on school ovals and marked areas in the undercover area, basketball courts, and with teacher permission on some paved areas of outer atrium spaces.)

Senior School: The top oval is for Year 7 & 8 students only.

  •  How can I Buy and/or Order Food at the Canteen? Both Junior and Senior Schools: Visit the Cafeteria page for more information.

  •  What are the Out of Bounds Areas? Both Junior and Senior Schools:

    • All staff areas, offices, classrooms, and teaching areas unless accompanied by a staff member.

    • Car parks, driveways, bus bays, and the bicycle compound.

    • The banks of the oval adjoining Murdoch Drive, Parry Ave, and Dean Road.

    • The area behind the cafeteria, Mayne block & Dean Road, as well as the Auditorium, Theatre, and the path leading to these venues.

    • Junior School: During recess and lunch, the atriums and classrooms are out of bounds. The carparks, sports shed, and Parish Church are always out of bounds.

 

  • Can I order Takeaway Food or Drinks: Both Junior and Senior Schools: No external food ordering is permisse, Av԰ Christi College complies with the Traffic Light Healthy Food and Drink Policy. Junior School: Parents cannot order takeaway food to be delivered to the junior school.

  • What is the Hands Off Procedure? Both Junior and Senior Schools: Specifically pertains to relationships between students, the following behaviours are unacceptable:

    • Overt displays of deep affection.

    • Unruly behaviour and rough play, including ‘play-fighting’.

    • Fighting or striking another person.

  • Can I have Library Access during break times? Junior School: The library is open for lunch breaks on designated days throughout the week. The library remains closed every Wednesday.

What are the Inclement Weather Procedures? Junior School: In case of extremely rainy/stormy weather or excessive heat conditions: eating will take place in undercover areas followed by returning to classrooms for the remainder of the play break.

 

Questions about Electronic devices:

  • Where should my valuables be kept? In the Senior School valuable are to be secured in your locker - DO NOT provide your locker combination to any other students. In the Junior School the items should be provided to the Junior School Administration.

  • What do I do if I need to contact a parent? Report to Student Services, who will contact your parents

  • Am I allowed to keep my mobile device on me during the School day? Mobile phones are not to be used during the school day, and should be stored securely in your locker if in the Senior School or at Junior School Administration for Junior School students.

  • What happens if a device is confiscated? In the Senior School this may be collected at the end of the School Day, however misuse generally results in a 30 minute detention as a consequence.

  • Who is responsible if my device is lost or stolen? The College will not be responsible for the loss, misuse or damage of mobile devices

 

General questions:

  • How do I access information for Extra-Curricular activities? Please visit /extra-curricular

  • What items are not allowed/banned at the College? Chewing gum

  • What happens if banned items are confiscated? In the Senior School, these maybe collected at the end of term. In the Junior School the item will be held in the Junior School Administration office to be collected by a parent/ guardian at the end of the day.

  • What are the expectations for Year 12s driving and parking on College grounds? Students may only park in the Year 12 carpark and are not permitted to access vehicles during the school day

  • How do visitors access the College? All visitors are required to report to College reception

  • Who do I ask for help at school? Always ask your class teacher first.
