Year 9 Art Gallery Excursion 2023
Antipodean Manifesto Excursion
Our Year 9 Arts students delved into the formation and ambitions of the Antipodean group and the place of 'Art' within the Social and Political context of late 1950s Australia and today.
The Antipodean Manifesto Exhibition features select paintings, drawings, prints, and ceramics by the seven artists who founded the Antipodean group in Melbourne in 1959 - Charles Blackman, Arthur Boyd,
David Boyd, John Brack, Robert Dickerson, John Perceval, and Clifton Pugh.
The manifesto expressed their opposition to non-figurative art, emphasising that recognisable images formed the core of painting. They stressed the importance of subject matter and criticised
the rise of abstract art.
