Welcome to Week 10

Outstanding for Others

We gathered today as a school community to celebrate a broad range of outstanding student accomplishments and to commission our incoming 2024 Prefect team. We were pleased to welcome parents, caregivers, families and friends and thank them for engaging in this special occasion.

During this assembly, we were able to highlight the multiple, holistic growth opportunities available to students and encourage them to strive to fulfil our vision of being ‘outstanding for others’.

To be ‘outstanding’, we want our students to step outside of their comfort zone to grow and learn and to then use their gifts in service of others. We want them to let their light shine, for as Matthew (5:15-16) says:

“No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and
it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works.”

We hope our students follow the advice of Pope Francis at the 2023 World Youth Day in Lisbon, Portugal, when he said:

“Dear young people, never lose your courage to dream big and to live life completely! Adopt the culture of care and spread it. Become champions of fraternity. Face life’s challenges by letting yourselves be guided by God.”

We encourage students therefore to continually strive toward our College vision by living out our values each and every day. That is to:

have the courage to grow, lead and serve
make a commitment to self, others and the College
be compassionate through showing care, respect and kindness toward others

All of our students have been gifted with an array of talents but is takes courage, compassion, and commitment to live these out to the full. At our assembly today, we had the opportunity to acknowledge a range of students who are living out these College values and making a positive difference to their own lives and the lives of those around them.

Part of this acknowledgment included celebrating the impact of our outgoing 2023 College Prefect team and formally commissioning our incoming senior leaders for 2024. This important aspect of leadership at Av�԰� Christi ensures that the unbroken line of senior leaders continues. In passing on the baton, our current leaders charge the incoming group with the important stewardship responsibility of leading our College community.

At Av�԰� we place a focus on the provision of quality leadership opportunities for students. Shane Lavery and Greg Hine from UNDA believe that “adolescents possess enormous leadership potential. They are tomorrow’s leaders in the workplace, the family, the community, and in government.”

They say that “developing the leadership potential of young people is vital. Society will always require leaders who are ethical, collaborative, transformative, and have a strong sense of service. Secondary schools are in a unique position to influence the leadership development of adolescents. Such influence comes in the shape of offering formal and informal opportunities for leadership, specific training in leadership, and adult mentors to accompany adolescents on their leadership journeys. Catholic secondary schools, moreover, can draw upon a rich tradition of Gospel values exemplified in the person of Jesus to inform their efforts to develop student leadership”.

Led by Head Girl, Stephanie De Luca, and Head Boy, Isaac Pavy, we acknowledge the indelible mark that our 2023 College Prefects have had on the life of the school this year. They have committed fully to the College and been present for others through genuine compassion and kindness. They have modelled Jesus through their service to others and have led our community with great joy, energy and enthusiasm. Our Prefects have challenged us all through their actions to collectively commit to growing our College.

I extend my acknowledgment to all of our Year 12 students for leading our College this year as the graduating class of 2023. We thank them for their positive legacy in continuing our Av�԰� Christi story.

Our Year 12s are firmly in our thoughts and prayers as they navigate the final few weeks toward their graduation next term, and we look forward to soon celebrating this special occasion with them. We encourage students to reach out to teachers at point of need in the coming weeks and reiterate our strong support and care for them as they work toward the completion of their courses and pathways.

In farewelling our 2023 Prefects, we welcome our new leaders to the fold with today’s formal commissioning. We congratulate our incoming 2024 Prefects, led by Head Girl, Kiara Trant, and Head Boy, Hudson Pivac, and acknowledge their dedication in stepping forward to lead. We wish them all the very best in their new roles and look forward to the positive impact they will make on the College.

I would also like to acknowledge the Year 11 students who expressed interest in a leadership role but did not receive a formal position. We celebrate their courage and commitment and look forward to their contribution to our College as part of our graduating cohort next year.

Today’s assembly provided an amazing snapshot of the wonderful growth opportunities available at our College and demonstrated what can be achieved through an intrinsic drive to be ‘outstanding for others’. We encourage students to become agents of their own learning and fully harness the multitude of learning pathways on offer at Av�԰� Christi.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank parents, caregivers and families for their engagement in the College community again this term. We value this important partnership as we work together to promote quality educational outcomes for our students.

I would also like to acknowledge our very dedicated K-12 College staff. We thank them for their ongoing efforts in supporting student learning.

As Term 3 draws to a close, I hope that you have the opportunity to enjoy some quality time together as a family over the holiday break.

Week 10 Update

Dear Families

As we prepare for our final week of term 3, I would like to begin my letter with the following quote from Martha Graham, an iconic American dancer/choreographer. Martha once said, “Great dancers are not great because of their technique; they are great because of their passion.” This quote captures what we witnessed in the first two Make a Move concerts in week 9. It was beautiful to see students having the courage to step on stage and perform their dance pieces in front of a large audience. It was also an opportunity this term for them to work collaboratively together in showing a dance that connects to themes in our pastoral care program “URSTRONG”. I was blown away by the performances and look forward to the final concert this Tuesday evening.

Thank you to the Make a Move team, who have worked with the students this term, teaching them the skills to choreograph parts of their dance.

We farewell the following teachers as they finish their temporary contracts at the school.

I want to extend my gratitude and thanks to Mrs. Moller, Ms. Yoon and Mr. Cunningham. It has been wonderful having you as part of our college community. You have brought forward many new ideas and have created strong connections with the students, staff, and families here. We wish you all the best in your next adventure.

SunSmart:

Students must wear their hats and sunscreen as the weather begins to warm up. I encourage parents to help their children apply sunscreen before school and ensure they have a hat in their bag for playtime. Teachers will be monitoring students wearing their hats at recess and lunch times. Those students who do not have a hat will need to play in the undercover area.

Confirmation Certifications:

Our next assembly will be on Friday, 13 October. We will also present the Year 6 students with their confirmation certificates during this assembly.

I wish all families a safe and restful break these holidays as we get ready for our final term of 2023.

Please be reminded that Term 4 will be the uniform changeover from winter to summer uniform.
Students are expected to wear summer uniform items in Term 4 and Term 1.

Cafeteria Update

Junior School migration from QuickCliq to Flexischools

Please be reminded that we will be migrating from the QuickCliq system for Junior School families to a new and improved system called Flexischools. This change will take effect from the first day in Term 4, 2023.

To ensure a smooth transition, we kindly request you to set up your Flexischools accounts following the . The instructions will guide you through the process, enabling you to create and manage your account efficiently. If you have an existing Flexischools Account, you may simply add another student to your account.

Please ensure that you contact QuickCliq to request a refund on the balance of your account, if there is any. This unfortunately cannot be done by the College on your behalf, each individual family must request the balance to be returned. You can find detailed information on how to proceed with account and credit card refunds in section.

VET and Transition Services

The VET and Transition Services department provides students with career development services on both an individualised and group level.

We have College students in Years 10, 11 and 12 who are seeking industry experience to gain skills and experience in a range of industries. They can use this experience to explore careers to assist with planning for the future. College parents and Alumni are an ideal source of support to gain experience via work-placement internships on pathways to Apprenticeships, TAFE and University.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Cast Announced!

We are excited to announce our 2024 Av�԰� Christi College Musical Production Cast for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!

With over 230 students auditioning from Year 4 to Year 11, including our incoming Year 7 students, it was very difficult for our production team to select the final cast.

A wet and windy evening became a warm and joyous occasion as students, families and friends from Kindergarten through to Year 12 celebrated the passion and remarkable talent of our students at the 2023 Visual Arts and Technology & Enterprise Expo opening. Huge thanks to our parents and students who supported our annual Scholastic Book Fair. It was wonderful to see so many families enjoying the books on sale. We are able to purchase new books for Term 4 for our Junior Library with our commission.

Tournament of the Minds Competition

On Saturday the 2nd of September at ECU, Joondalup, seven Av�԰� Junior School students competed in the Tournament of the Minds competition in which they were given the opportunity to solve an open-ended challenge that fosters creative, divergent thinking whilst developing collaborative enterprise, excellence and teamwork. ACC ISP Athletics Carnival

The ACC ISP (Inclusive Sports Program) Athletics Carnival was a day filled with joy, camaraderie, and outstanding athletic performances.

Our ESC students had the opportunity to connect with peers, forge new friendships, and strengthen existing bonds, all while engaging in a variety of exciting athletic pursuits. The atmosphere at the carnival was nothing short of electric, as students from sixteen CEWA schools came together, demonstrating exceptional sportsmanship by cheering each other on. It was a day that truly embodied the spirit of inclusivity and unity.

Hudson Cooper and Oliver Fenwick (Year 10)

Our Year 10 boys, Hudson Cooper and Oliver Fenwick, won their 4th straight AFL Grand Final for the BullCreek Leeming sharks (Division 1). Both boys played exceptionally well to help secure victory for their team. Well Done to our Super Stars.

Learn to Swim at Av�԰�

Av�԰� Christi College offers a Learn to Swim Program onsite at the Jennifer Reilly Aquatic Centre. The aquatic centre features a covered and heated 25 metre, eight-lane indoor lap and water polo pool, a separate 12 metre learn-to-swim pool and terrace seating for 180 people.

Our Learn to Swim Program is facilitated by Speed With Style, a company who provide a unique approach to swim teaching called Individualised Custom Teaching, which was developed by Dr Nigel Williams in collaboration with head coach and Speed with Style Founder - John Williams.

The Learn to Swim program is available to both Av�԰� Christi College students and those external to the College.

Reporting of Absentees

If your child is absent from school there are a variety of ways in which parents can inform the College, more information is located here. Absentees can be reported through a variety of means, including the online form, SMS or email absentee@corpus.wa.edu.au. The least preferred method is via call due to the translation of the voice message being unclear at times, please reserve calling for emergencies only. It is very important that you provide your child’s full name, their classroom/homeroom, and the reason for their absence. Please ensure any emails are sent to Absentee@corpus.wa.edu.au and not individual staff email accounts within Student Services. The College will shortly be undertaking a review of the variety of methods used to report absences and is looking to streamlining the number of methods in which this can be done.
