Women In Code
On Friday, 8th March, 11 girls from Years 7 - 12 with Mrs Armenti participated in the ‘Women in Code’ Conference and Workshop at the West Coast Eagles- Mineral Resources Park in Lathlain.
This event aimed to inspire girls in STEM and Coding coincided with International Women’s Day, resonating with the importance of equal participation of Women.
Organised by Apple and Winthrop Australia the event provided an insightful and empowering gathering of expert presenters including Steph Worladge from Melbourne, who demonstrated her extensive knowledge of Xcode and her skills in the mentoring of iOS Developers around the country. Leah Langdale from Sydney shared her industry experience in working with iOS Developers and App Development in Xcode and Michelle Forrest from Winthrop Australia, presented some of her specialist talents in Coding and Augmented Reality.
The Industry Showcase in the afternoon was especially interesting, as the girls were able to engage in a question-and-answer session and chat with the presenters. Our Students learnt about coding apps and the processes involved in planning and making an app, with the 'Challenge of the Day' being a team task of designing an app for a real-world scenario.
This was a uniquely informative and inspiring day that provided enjoyment, learning and challenge to our students involved.
